LINE VARIETY
Description:
In this lesson, students explored line variety through mixed media to create artwork that either celebrates or challenges a tradition personal to each student. To do this, students first learned how different types of line can impact the interpretation of an image and then began to develop an artist statement through independent research which informed their final product.
Rationale:
The reason for this lesson was to emphasize the planning process of creating artwork. Before this, student had already spoken about some techniques that could be accomplished with a line but lacked the deeper interpretation aspect in critiques. Because of this, I focused on the planning stages of our artwork so that students could begin to experience applying meaning to their artwork and thus see it in others.
FOUND OBJECT PAINTING
Description:
In this lesson, students were able to experiment with different tools to create monsters of three diffreent textures. Students first listened to a reading of "Hey that's my monster!" by Amanda Noll. After which, we spoke about the meaning of texture and the examples we saw within the book. Once students had an understanding of what texture meant we began to brainstorm ways in which we can recreate a fuzzy, slimey, and spikey monster. Once we had an understanding of the techniques we would use students were able to participate in stations where they used marker painting, colored pencils, and painting with utensils to create their monsters.
Rationale:
The reason I chose to use this lesson was to experiment with the TAB teaching method and allow student s to explore creating art in an untraditional manner. I believe this lesson was a success as it helped me get a better grasp on class management procedures while allowing students to have more agency over their learning
